Compulsive Gambling is a disorder
of impulse control. Most compulsive gamblers have a chronic and
progressive failure to resist impulses to gamble. Problem
Gamblers cannot stop gambling. Problem
Gambling is an addiction-like alcohol and drug addiction.
Gambling addiction can happen to anyone.
Some warning signs of
Problem Gambling may include:
- Spending a lot of time gambling
- Missing work
- Family problems
- Secretive behavior
- Mood swings
- Gambling to cope
- Borrowing money
- Lying to hide gambling
- Spending binges and excessive shopping
- Unexplained money
- Delaying payments on household and other bills

Community and Family Resources offers
help for the whole family. Our gambling services consist
of the following:
- Individual counseling
- Group therapy
- Outreach services
- Education
- Referral to local debt management services
- 24 hour/7 day a week crisis intervention/services through
our nursing department and counselor on call system
The State of Iowa provides funding for gambling services on a
sliding fee scale. The cost to the client is determined by their
income and debt load. No one is denied
services for the inability to pay. In rare cases, a
person may wish to pay for room and board costs, a cost not covered
by the State of Iowa, and receive gambling services while staying
at Community and Family Resources.
